West Kelowna Pickleball Club

Please note:

Organized Play events are subject to change throughout the season as determined by the needs and wishes of the membership and/or special events.  Please check ‘Hold My Court for the most accurate bookings/plans for any particular day.

Please note the difference between ‘Skill-based Drop-in Play’ and ‘Drop-in Play’.

 Skill-Based Drop-In Play

Players will place their paddles in the tubular holder attached to the fence, according to their skill level and then play fellow members at the same skill level, when the appropriate court becomes available.

Court 3 & 4 are for ‘novice’, courts 11 & 12 are for ‘intermediate’ and, court 10 is for ‘advanced’.

No need to pre-register. Until this system is fine-tuned and members are familiar, there will be courtside assistance to help.

For now, this will take place from 7:00 am – 10:00 am and again starting at 11:30 – 1:00 pm.

 Drop-In & Evening Coaching

Monday evening starting at 6:30 is Drop-in play, so come out to play and meet some Club members.  There is no need to book a court. and it is not skill-level based so the courts will be open for all players.

If you register for Drop-in Coaching on Monday evening we will do our best to ensure some volunteer coaches are there to help you work on areas of the game you want to improve.

Anyone wishing to work on skills can receive assistance from a coach. Depending on the number of players who show up, the skill training may be group-based.

For now, this will take place from 7:00 am – 10:00 am with limited courts from 11:30 am – 1:00 pm

In Game Coaching

In-Game-Coaching differs from traditional pickleball lessons/clinics in that participants will be in a game situation with a coach providing feedback.  Starts May 3rd

These sessions focus more on tactics and strategies than on skill and drill. A coach will observe, provide feedback and might insert themselves into the game in order to demonstrate key concepts.

You must register your group for this weekly event which begins at 11:30 on Tuesdays. You can register a group of 3 or 4 players. If you are registering as a group of 3 players the coach will complete the foursome and will play and coach (yes they are that talented).

You will receive an email with your scheduled IGC session information the week prior to your session.

 Meet & Match Play

(Evenings 6:30 pm)

Matchmaker, matchmaker, make me a match, find me a partner, pair me a catch,

If you are interested in meeting new people and find  playing partners, come to our Meet and Match Speed-Dating on Tuesday evenings, at 6:30 pm.  Show up at the courts a bit early to sign-in on the clipboard and meet “The Matchmaker”.

The Matchmaker will place you in playing groups based on your self-rated ability.  To make it easy, think about whether you are Novice, Intermediate or Advanced, don’t over think it!  The speed-dating part is you will be playing timed games and then switching partners.

We hope Pickleball Speed-Dating will make you want to take names and phone numbers of Club members so you can contact them to play on our Drop-In courts or reserve a court using Hold My court.

 Co-ed Ladder Play

A pickleball ladder is a format in which you will play with and against other players at a similar skill level.

This is a coed, skill-based round robin ladder which means that you will be placed in a pool based on skill NOT on gender. To be clear this is a coed league NOT a mixed doubles league.

The results of your matches will be entered into Pickleball Brackets.com which will use its algorithm to adjust your rating up or down depending on your match results.

Their algorithm will take into consideration variables like age, gender, skill rating, points for and against etc. Your next matches will be based on your updated rating. The more you win, the higher your rating and vice versa.

A ladder is an excellent way to gauge your skill level. As they say…”The ladder doesn’t lie”.

The Coed Round Robin Ladder is played on Fridays at 11:30.

You do not need to play each week but you will need to “opt in” each time you want to play. The cutoff to “opt in ” is every Tuesday at 11:30 am. In order to “opt in” you must sign up on www.pickleballbrackets.com.

If you don’t have a free account on Pickleball Brackets you will not be able to play in this ladder league.  Please check out this “How To” document to learn how to get set up to play in this ladder league.
